Greetings Hawkeye Rifle and Pistol Club Members!  July 31 2010

The BBQ we had at the outdoor range on Wednesday, July 28th turned out to be an event that was enjoyed by many of our members and their family's.  I'm happy that so many of you were able to attend, given the relatively short notice for this event.  The weather was good, House of Q BBQ was fantastic, we gave away a Ruger 10/22 rifle, and 5 members received great deals on Browning Shotguns.

Best of all was the turnout of friends and family - it was my pleasure meeting so many new people. After the event, I received many positive comments about the BBQ event and especially the social aspect of it.

Before I sign off, I would like to thank and recognize the following people and businesses for helping to make our BBQ a memorable event:

Joe Krula - for setting up camp in Siouxland and helping for two days!
Grant Mears - thanks for hauling everything from the store and clubhouse to the range!
Ron Holtzen - for picking up the roasters and helping with set up!
Troy Benson - thanks for spending your day off helping us!
Doug Conrad - thank you for prayer!
Bob Murphy family - thanks to each one of you!  What a team!
Damon Hillyer family - for everything - you guys are awesome!
Bill Moes - we couldn't have finished up without you!

Browning - for the Test Drive Program!
Bill Minor - door prizes!
Steve Lyman and Chesterman Co. - ice, trough and for everything you do for us!
Kent Broyhill and Studio B Graphics - Cowboy Comedy booth and graphics!

House of Q - we will see you and your trailer at next years event!  Thanks!

And to all of you!  Whether you attended or not, you are what makes our club!

See you August 6th at the Cowboy Comedy event!

Greetings Hawkeye Rifle and Pistol Members!

I'll keep this newsletter relatively short and focused on several upcoming events. Later this month, we are having a BBQ at the outdoor range and in the first week in August we will have the Cowboy Comedy event at the Sergeant Bluff Family Center.  Before I go into those events, I would like to share a couple of success stories with you.

Cast Bullet Association National Tournament was held in Puyallup Washington on June 13th and 14th.  Two of our club members, Michael Kastning and Duane Nelson, entered the match and they both proved to be fierce competitors.

In the issue class, Duane Nelson placed 3rd overall in the nation!
Duane received the following medals:
Gold 100 yard 5 shot group aggregate
Silver 100 yard 10 shot group aggregate
 Bronze 200 yard score
 Silver 5 shot grand aggregate
Gold 100 yard 5 shot small group (.618") breaking his own National Record

Michael Kastning finished 5th overall in the issue class and received the following medals:
 Bronze 100yd 10 shot group
Bronze 200 YD 10 shot group
 Silver 10 Shot Grand Aggregate

Saving the best for last, Modified Scope Class National Champion was none other than Michael Kastning !
Mike received the following medals:
Bronze (2) 100 yd 5 shot group, 5 shot grand aggregate
Silver (5) 100 yd 10 shot group, 100 yd score, 200 yd 5 shot group, 200 yd score, Grand score

Gold   (2) 200 yd 10 shot group, 10 shot grand aggregate

Duane and Michael offered our range for next years National Tournament, making it the 3rd time the Hawkeye Rifle and Pistol Club will host this prestigious event.

Thank you and congratulations to Michael and Duane!

A friend (and accomplished shooter) of fellow club member Dave Hineline contacted Dave to let him know that in June, one of members won the Service Rifle match in Omaha.  He went on to say that Tom Holm is "a most excellent shooter!"

Congratulations on your shooting accomplishment Tom!

It's a BBQ at the outdoor range!  There will be plenty of good BBQ, a gun give away, and five members will be given the opportunity to purchase their choice of a brand new Browning Shotgun at 30% off of wholesale pricing!  Unbeknownst to them, we will also be recognizing several people in our club at this event.  Medals and trophies will also be given to the Shotgun and Steel Plate league winners.  And finally, we have exciting club news to share with you.

Cowboy Comedy on August 6th!

Thanks to the many of you that have purchased the tickets we sent to you for our fundraiser and social event planned for August 6th. So far, 300 tickets have been purchased but we still need to sell 300 more tickets to make this event successful.

The money generated from this fundraiser will go to help fund the many projects we have going on this year at the outdoor range.  We have purchased PAT Traps and have completed a large and costly electrical project at the range.  Still ahead, we are building trap houses, installing a water line (yes, we will have water at the range this year!) and we have improvements schedule on the pistol range and the rifle range.

Please keep in mind, if the event itself is not something you are interested in or you cannot attend the event, your ticket purchase gives you a chance to win a Kimber pistol or a 42" flat screen!  (if you win the Kimber, you are welcome to trade it for other merchandise from Scheels)

If you are unable to attend or sell the tickets, your purchase give you an opportunity to win either a Kimber 45acp pistol or a 42" LCD flat screen!

Please don't hesitate contacting Kent Broyhill at 402.494.1883 or via email at kbroyhill@studiobgraphics.com or myself with questions.

Thanks!
